The philosophy that led to the creation of the Back flower essences.
Dr. Edward Bach was given a copy of Hahnemann’s Organon when he was appointed pathologist and bacteriologist at the London Homeopathic Hospital. He discovered that he had similar views as Hahnemann in immunology and the principles of homeopathy.
Bach felt there should be seven herbs instead of seven groups of bacteria. This philosophy led him to observe people in order to understand their personality and internal problems. This in turn led to his grouping them into spiritual typologies.
In his research he concluded that flowers were the Divinely potentized healing plants. His hypothesis was that in mid-summer, when the sun was at its peak, the flowers received the greatest power found from that source. He also concluded the flower heads alone would be the part of the plants used to prepare his new medicines because they contained the greatest virtue of the plant.
Bach saw Hahnemann and Paracelsus as the forerunners of the true method of healing, but not as the final solution. He also agreed that if the spiritual and mental aspects of a person were in harmony, disease could not exist. To treat a person was to treat the inner man.
Bach found Hahnemann’s theory that like cures like to be in error. He theorized that wrong could not cure wrong and that only god could triumph over evil.
He also theorized that the true cure was offered by the flower essences, which cure, “not by attacking disease, but by flooding our bodies with the beautiful vibrations of our Higher Nature, in the presence of which disease melts as not in the sunshine.”
